2017 Noepe Scholarships and Fellowships
Noepe continues to work with alumni and local institutions in creating an on-going scholarship program to provide financial aid for writers seeking to attend the residency.
The following scholarships and fellowships are available for 2016. To apply please fill out the online application form and select the scholarship of your choice, uploading the required sample of your work. (Please note the application fee of $10.00 still applies.)

Noepe on the Farm Scholarship in partnership with The Farm Institute at Katama Farm is offering a special two-week residency between September 17th-October 30th, 2017. Application is open to writers of any genre interested in learning and writing about the intersection of agriculture and community on Martha’s Vineyard. Applicants need not have previously written about agriculture nor do they need a farming background, merely demonstrate a desire and curiosity to explore the intersection between farming and writing. The scholarship provides two-weeks residency at Noepe as well a living stipend of $200.00 per week. For more info and to apply click here
The Room Six Scholarship is awarded each Spring to a writer, in any genre, whose work is of exceptional quality but whose financial situation is such that they would not otherwise be able to attend MVWR for two weeks. This scholarship, created by an MVWR alumni who wished to reward others with an opportunity to work at Noepe, residency fee, and provides a stipend of $500 for food and living expenses for two weeks.
Carol Marie (Wagner) Smith Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one writer each Fall. The award provides for a two week residency at Noepe and a $300.00 stipend to cover living expenses during the residency. This scholarship was created in memory of Carol Marie (Wagner) Smith, a woman who appreciated great works of literature and supported writing throughout her life.
Innovation in Journalism Fellowship
The Vineyard Gazette, an award-winning newspaper based on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, is seeking applications from multimedia journalists for a new six-week fellowship on the Vineyard during the spring of 2017.
The Martha’s Vineyard Fellowship for Innovation in Journalism, created in association with Noepe Center for the Literary Arts, will select a fellow who will work alongside Vineyard Gazette reporters and editors to produce one or more in-depth news projects that combine high standards of journalism with innovative storytelling techniques.
Goal of the Fellowship
The Gazette has created the fellowship to promote experimentation and to cultivate the use of multimedia journalism techniques in a traditional newsroom setting. The successful fellow will have professional journalism experience and demonstrated audio, video and/or digital production skills. We are seeking a mature, multimedia journalist with the ability and desire to work as part of a newsroom team, to share knowledge and to produce compelling news packages.
Dates of the Fellowship
The fellowship is for the six-week period starting April 16, 2017 through May 27, 2016.
